'03 Honda CRF 80. Looks like I need to rebuild the engine by replacing the piston rings since I can't get a compression reading above 25 PSI. I'm wondering if there is anything else that I need to do besides replace the piston rings in order to fix the compression problem. Number 1 is the only reason I would test a cold engine, and I've had to do that. All engine specs for compression that I know of are for engines at operating temperature. From my experience cold compression is always lower than hot for the reasons posted and one not mentioned; ring sealing is less when cold. So my crf150f has a hard time starting so I figured I would try a compression test just to see if that had anything to do with it and sure enough compression is low seems to be around 130psi but my tester could be a bit off it was just a cheapo, but I doubt its miss reading by 30.
